Employers across America are encountering increased court delays in their California background screening process. The cause of the delays with these background checks is a change in California state laws. Last year a Ca. Court of Appeal ruling lead to the removal of date of birth and driver’s license information from public records. As a result, the California court system is witnessing a backlog of background check data like never before. Things were looking good for overturning this ill-advised law as both the State Senate and General Assembly, with an overwhelming majority, passed a bill (SB1262) to undo this ruling. As a result, the background check delays remain ongoing in the California courts system.
